Arthur, who is currently President of the Southport & Formby League, won the Southport Individual Competition on 5 occasions and the MIMIR trophy twice. Alan was a founder member of the Southport League and a former President of MQL.

2000/2001 was Wings best season ever to date. They finished undefeated as the Division One Champions and also reached the semi-final of the MQL Challenge Cup. Tom Farley also won the Eddie Conway Cup and along with Dag Griffiths was a member of the Southport & Formby team that won the President's Trophy. Pictured left (l to r) are Maurice Wright, Dag Griffiths and Tom Farley receiving the Division One trophy ffrom MQL President Peter Richardson.

Wings made up for the disappointment of losing their league title by beating Zetland in the 2002 Don Standing Cup Final. This was the club's first success in this competition.

Wings crowned the 2001/2002 season by winning the prestigious W.B. Feeny Cup (contested by the top 3 teams in division 1 of each of MQL's leagues) - Pictured (l to r) are Dag Griffiths, Keith Mulhearn and Tom Farley receiving their awards from MQL President Peter Deakin.

The success story continued in the 2002/2003 season when the Division One Championship was regained and the Don Standing Cup retained.

In 2004, the league title was lost by the narrowest of margins but the Don Standing Cup was won for the third consecutive season.

In 2005 Wings again were Division One Runners-up and retained the Don Standing Cup for the fourth season in a row.

In 2006 Wings regained the Division One title with a 100% record - only the second team to do so. However their 4 year reign as Don Standing Cup holders came to an end when they were defeated by Valentinos. They reached the final of the Merseyside Challenge Cup for the first time in their history but went down to Old Dog (Ormskirk).

In 2007 Wings retained the Division One title, again remaining unbeaten but this time dropping a point to closest rivals Scarisbrick Hotel. Last year's defeat at the hands of Old Dog was avenged when Wings won the W.B.Feeny Cup for the second time.

A sad day when the Wings Club closed in September 2007, the end of an era. The quiz team re-located to the other end of Windsor Road, The London. The change of venue had no ill effect on domestic form as Wings retained the league title and regained the Don Standing Cup. Both major domestic trophies were also won in 2009. In 2013 the London closed and the team transferred to the Mason's Arms. In September 2018 Wings moved to the Bold Arms in Churchtown.

In 2010 Wings had to be content with runners-up spot in Division One but retained the Don Standing Cup. In 2011 the situation was reversed, winning the league and settling for runners-up in the Don Standing Cup. In 2011 Wings reached the final of the Merseyside Challenge Cup for a second time but once again lost to Old Dog (Ormskirk). 2012 was 'the year of the bridesmaids' - the team were runners-up in four competitions. However in 2013 they bounced back, winning the League and Cup double.

2014 was Wings most successful season to date retaining the Division 1 title and winning three cup trophies all for the first time: Maurice Jefferies Plate, Handicap Cup and the Merseyside Challenge Cup (at the third time of asking - beating Oxton Conservatives in the final), They retained the league trophy the next four years.

In 2018 they won the treble of Division One, Don Standing Cup and MQL Plate and in 2019 the domestic treble of Division One and both cups.

CURRENT PLAYERS
Tom Farley
Previously played for Victoria Sports with whom he won the Division 1 title twice. Since joining Wings he helped the team secure the Division 1 runners-up spot in 3 consecutive seasons before finally winning the championship. Has won both the Southport & Formby individual competition (six times) and the MQL MIMIR trophy (twice). He has twice appeared on Radio 4's Brain of Britain, being runner-up in the final on the second occasion. In 2000 he won his game of 15 to 1 and narrowly missed out on a place in the Grand Final. Tom holds the League record for the highest individual score in a match, 33 points.
Keith Mulhearn
A long standing member of the Wings team, retired schoolteacher Keith is now into his second century of quizzing. Originally hailing from Kirkby, he started his quiz career with Knowsley Sports Club in the Northern League. He is the only one of the current squad not to have appeared on C4's 15 to 1! However he did guest once for Wings Wanderers on BBC Radio Merseyside's 'Merseyquiz'. A keen gardener, he also enjoys pub quizzes particularly at the Imperial, noted for its hot dogs. On a catering note, he has always ensured that Wings have always set the highest standard in post match refreshments.
Maurice Wright
A true Sandgrounder and quiz fanatic who has been a winner twice on 15 to 1. Maurice joined the team from Victoria Sports under the 'Bosman Ruling'. He is known variously as being an Evertonian, a gannet (always has the last sandwich at quizzes) and a beer/wine connoisseur ('I'll drink anything, me!'). As a nurseryman and keen 'organic' gardener, his knowledge of scientific names from the plant world comes in useful as does his encyclopaedic knowledge of pop music and the natural world. He develops a nervous twitch whenever Debbie Harry's name is mentioned.
Dag Griffiths
Transferred in the late 90's from Wings Wanderers for whom he played from1984, having been spotted making a guest appearance for Knowsley Sports Club in a 1983 Merseyside Cup Tie. He has appeared four times on Radio 4's Brain of Britain, reaching the Grand Final in 2014. He was narrowly defeated in a 'Countdown' final. He seems to be a perennial finalist in the S&F Individual Competition and has won it a record nine times. In June 2000 he won the 28th Grand Final of 15 to 1, having also appeared in the previous Grand Final. In 2004 and in 2006 he managed to wrest the Bill Hawkins Trophy (highest male scorer) from Ray Oakes (Condottieri). He retained the trophy in all seasons from 2007-2018. In 2010 he also won the MQL MIMIR trophy for the first time and won it again in 2016.
Bob Parry
The team's latest acquisition having transferred from Thatch & Thistle when the team folded. Had previously played for Koronet. One of four Evertonians in the team and a speaker of Welsjh.. He represents the team's youth policy.
