18th September 2026 - Week Two
Monday
Fisherman’s Rest played Mixed Blues who didn't find the quiz to their liking. The score at halftime was 21 to 10 in favour of the home team. Fisherman’s Rest consolidated their lead in the second-half and finished winners 42 to 23. Harry Owen and Dave Williams led the scoring with 13 each for the home team. MPs were at home to Aardvark Bold and had a comfortable 44-27 victory. MPs were without 2 regulars and the landlady of the Mount, Jo, stepped in to play. This proved to be a good move as she was the home team's top scorer with a fine 15.Dan Evans scored 12. For the away team Andy Dean was top scorer on 10. MPs led throughout the game. Southport Grasshoppers played Wings at home and it proved to be a tough match for them as Wings won 62 -26. The away team led throughout and it was 30 to 14 in their favour at the halfway stage. Mick Hopkins was the top scorer for the home team with 12. All the Wings players were in double figures. Again, Dag Griffiths just missed out on a full house with a very impressive 19. Tom Farley scored a good 16 and Keith Mulhearn scored a good 15. Maurice Wright scored 12. There were 29 two pointers and five unanswered questions in this match.
Tuesday
Exams hosted a match against Formby Bay Horse and led for the first 4 rounds. It was 26 to 24 at the halfway stage. However, in the second-half Formby Bay Horse won all four rounds and finished up winning the fixture 53 -43. Exams top scorer was Jim Quigley on 13. He was supported by Robin Speakman on 12 and Nick Philpott on 11. All the away team were in double figures. Their leading scorer with a very good 17 was Alastair Gillespie. Sheila Tickle scored 13. Bill Thomas scored12 and Dave Dutton 11. There were 36 two pointers in this match and just three unanswered questions.
E Street Band had a comfortable 51-34 win over Cavallette. They won the opening round 9-3 and they went on to lead throughout. It was 28 to 15 at the halfway stage for the home team. Geoff Hedley and Dave Nickeas led the scoring for ESB with a good 15 each. Alan Wright scored 12. Dave Palmer and Alan Martin both scored 10 for the away team. There were 28 two pointers and six unanswered questions.
Grapes of Wrath were at home to Quads. At halftime the score was 18 to 23. Although there were a few close rounds Quads scored more 2 pointers to finish with an 11 point victory 48-37. For the home team Derek Roberts and Keith Wilkinson scored 11 each. For Quads Adrian Cannell scored an excellent 21 points, making him this week's top scorer. Teammate Steve Bray scored 11. There were 31 two pointers and 9 unanswered questions in this match.
10th September 2026 - Week One
Welcome to a new season. There was only one match on Monday when Aardvark Bold played their former stable mates East Street Band.
Aardvark only had two players which made the match rather one sided. At halftime the score was 10-30 in favour of East Street Band. ESB continued to do well in the second half. The final score was 23-55. Brian Cummins scored 13 for the home side, with John Richards 10. All East Street Band were in double figures. Alan Wright was the lead scorer with a fine 17. Geoff Hedley and Dave Nickeas both played well with 14 each. Dave Twigge scored 10. 22 2 pointers were scored and there were 9 unanswered questions.
Tuesday’s matches
Cavallette were at home to Exams. They led for four rounds and then it was 27 each at the end of round 5.Going into the final round the home team were just 2 points ahead. However, they won the final round 6 to 1 to give them a victory of 40 to 33. For Cavallette Kate Woods scored an impressive 21. Nick Philpott on 12 and Jim Quigley on 11 were the leading scorers for Exams. There were 22 2 pointers and 13 unanswered questions in this contest.
In their home match against Grapes of Wrath Ex Pats trailed for 3 rounds. They won round 4 by 7 to 1 to make it level at the half way stage at 20 each. In the second half the home team won 2 rounds, the away team 1 and 1 was drawn.The final score was 35 to 32. Peter Lyth led the scoring for Ex Pats with a fine 16. He was ably supported by Don Hobson who scored a good 14. Jack Gardner was the top scorer for Grapes of Wrath with a very good 18. In this match there were 20 2 pointers and 17 unanswered questions.
Formby Bay Horse played a close match against Fisherman’s Rest. The home side won the opening round 8-5 with the away side winning the next three rounds 8-6, 8-6, 8-4 to lead 24-29 at halftime. After Round 7 the Bay Horse were 2 points behind but clinched the win by winning the final round 8-2. the match finished 50-46. For the home team Sheila tickle scored an impressive 19 (one answer short of a full house). Sheila was supported by Ray Oakes on a very good 17, with Dave Dutton scoring 10. For the away team Harry Owen was the leading scorer with a very good 15. His team mates John Clarke and Alan Ascott scored 13 and 12 respectively. There were 35 2 pointers scored and just 5 unanswered questions.
Home team Quads led from the start in their match against Southport Grasshopper and won 5 of the 8 rounds. At half time it was 25 - 17. Quads consolidated their lead in the second half to finish with a comfortable victory of 42 to 32. Steve Redfern with a very good 17 was the leading scorer for the home team. His team mates Adrian Cannell and Richard Farbon scored 12 and 11 respectively. For the opposition David Phillips scored a good 14. There were 24 2 pointers and 14 unanswered questions in this match.
MPs had a good first half in their away match at Wings and were one point ahead at the change around. However, Wings took the lead by winning the fifth round 9-4. They kept the lead for the remainder of the quiz winning the final round 10-0 to give them a comfortable victory of 56-38. For the home team Dag Griffiths scored an excellent 24 (another one that was one short of a full house). He was supported by Keith Mulhearn on 13 and Tom Farley 12.
